LEVEL / SELF-FUNDED HEALTH PLANS

Level / Self-Funding 101

Level-funding (Starting at 25 members): The employer will engage in partial self–funding‚ agreeing to pay out a pre-determined monthly premium. However, unlike a fully-insured policy‚ the employer retains any unspent claim funds. This approach allows companies of 25 or more‚ to establish an excellent health plan‚ while reaping the economic benefits. Historically our proprietary level-funded plans have typically delivered savings of $2000-$2,500 per employee per year when compared to the fully-insured option.

Self–funded insurance (Typically starting at 250 members): generally less expensive as the employer assumes more risk of their plan. Some risk is mitigated by purchasing stop-loss insurance. These plans require more stringent underwriting and plan design consideration, but offer the greatest reward when the employment population is large enough to spread the risk.
